Is a Native American chief similar to a U.S. president?
Sitting Bull

A Native American chief is a leader of a tribe. They are similar to how a president is the leader of a country. The chief is responsible for leading his people in peace and war. Tribal members follow the orders of the chief, and each tribe has its own chief or leader. You have already learned that there were many different native peoples throughout the United States. Each of these tribes had its own chief.
