Goliad was another settlement that sprang up near the San Antonio River. It was established in 1749. The fort Presidio La Bahia was built there, and it became the center of the city.

This fort was the center of the Battle of Goliad in which Texians were defeated by the Mexican army in one of the first battles during the Texas Revolution.
