April 2 is Pascua Florida Day. It is the anniversary of when Juan Ponce de Leon discovered Florida in 1513 when he was searching for gold and the fountain of youth. He named the land, Pascua Florida, which in Spanish means "a feast of flowers." It is usually used to refer to the Easter season. 
Similar to Texas, Florida remembers the Confederate soldiers and sailors who died in the Civil War; however, they celebrate Confederate Memorial Day on April 26. 
On June 3, the birthday of Jefferson Davis is celebrated in Florida. During the Civil War, he was the U.S. senator best known as "the president of the Confederate States of America." |
